What Lies Beneath?

At the starting point of the exhibition, visitors can view a movie, produced by the British Geological Survey that shows the sea bed under the route of the tall ships race, and the location of the science areas highlighted in this Sailing Over Changing Seas exhibition.

Marine geological and topographical information helps us manage our marine environment . It is used to support the development of our marine resources including oil and gas, renewable energy, marine aggregates, aquaculture and fishing. It also helps us conserve marine biodiversity and the UK's marine archaeological inheritance.

The British Geological Survey constructed this movie from multibeam and sidescan sonar data and provides an integrated geological research programme in UK waters.
